Conagra Brands is deeply motivated to make a meaningful impact on the pervasive societal issue of hunger. Hunger and food insecurity impacts the communities hardest hit by COVID-19 and recent events. The company takes a holistic approach which includes employee engagement, financial contributions and production donations. Following are just a few of the many Conagra initiatives which aim to impact and raise awareness of food insecurity:

  • Responding to COVID-19: The COVID-19 virus has significantly increased the strain on community resources to ensure children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens have access to food. Conagra Brands has given support in many ways, including donating product to Feeding America and other organizations, making cash contributions, and providing assistance at a local level through remote food drives and volunteer activities. • Nourish Our Communities Grants: Each year, Conagra Brands employees are encouraged to nominate effective nonprofits for grants which are then reviewed by an all-employee panel. Last year, the program awarded $350,000 to 23 organizations around the country.
  • Shine the Light on Hunger Campaign: Based in Omaha, home to Conagra Brands’ largest workforce, Conagra leads an annual community-wide call-to-action to raise food, funds and awareness of the issue of hunger. In 2019, the campaign generated over 2.4 million meals for the Food Bank for the Heartland.
  • Month of Service: In April, thousands of Conagra Brands employee volunteers connect with non-profit organizations through projects that benefit their communities. In fiscal year 2019, more than 2,600 employees volunteered over 7,430 hours of their time and raised the equivalent of 697,277 meals for people facing food insecurity across the United States and in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
  • Ongoing Food Product Donations: In Conagra Brands’ fiscal year 2020, the company donated 30 million pounds of food to the Feeding America network of 200 food banks located throughout the United States. This equates to an average of over 2.5 million pounds of food donated to the Feeding America network of food banks every month.
  • United Way Campaign: United Way and its network of nonprofit agencies form a safety net in each of our communities that provide education, health, job training or basic needs such as food, housing or crisis intervention. Last year, employees in 30+ Conagra Brands production facility and office locations raised over $550,000 (more than 126% of the company’s goal) to help neighbors.

The Civic 50 honorees are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more and are surveyed and selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement program including investment, integration, institutionalization and impact. The survey helps companies become more active leaders in the corporate social responsibility field and provides valuable benchmarking data to better understand and grow their community impact.
