ConAgra Flour Milling Co. Begins 2000 Focused On Customers
Omaha, Nebraska, March 10, 2000
For ConAgra Flour Milling Company, a longtime leader in the U.S. flour milling industry, 1999 was a busy and successful year. Much of this can be attributed to ConAgra's ongoing commitment to providing outstanding customer service. The company's goal for 2000 is to make this commitment even stronger by incorporating customer service into all aspects of its business, including: advertising, product development, acquisitions and plant modernizations.
Advertising:
In October, ConAgra Flour Milling Company rolled-out its new "Think big" advertising campaign to reflect the company's commitment to helping their customers "make it big.""Thinking big is really a customer-based concept," said Don Brown, vice president of sales. "From local shops to multi-unit operations, ConAgra Flour Milling's job is to help its customers grow and prosper by delivering the experience, resources and big ideas from one of the world's largest food companies."
Those involved in the grain industry may have noticed the campaign's introductory ad in numerous trade publications. The simple two-color, full-page ad featured the ConAgra Flour Milling Co. logo and read, "This is going to be big."
Additional ads follow in coming months with "Big Ideas" for various customer channels such as baking, pizza and foodservice distribution.
Product Development:
ConAgra Flour Milling Company offers top quality flour and a variety of other innovative flours to meet its customers' unique or special requirements, such as: Low Micro Count Flour, Ultra Fine Whole Wheat Flour, Organic Flour and Oriental Noodle Flour. The company employs the industry's premier research and development programs and is constantly striving to develop new strains of wheat and new products.Recently, ConAgra introduced its national product line-up featuring 17 varieties of flour: Powerful®, Kyrol®, Producer®, Magnifico Special®, Occident®, King Midas Special®, Minnesota Girl®, Chef's Delight ®, American Beauty®, White Spray®, Flaky Crust®, King Midas No. 1 Semolina®, King Midas Extra Fancy®, King Midas Fancy Patent®, White Rye®, Ramsey Medium Rye® and Dark Rye®.
"ConAgra's consolidation of regional and national flour brands will make buying flour easier for our customers,"said Darek Nowakowski, president. "And, as always, customers can count on ConAgra for unsurpassed product quality, customer service and total value."
Consolidation will also allow ConAgra Flour Milling to focus its attention and marketing efforts on core brands.
ConAgra Flour Milling Company services all regions of the United States and exports products around the world. The company manufactures a full line of flour products that are used in breads and rolls, pizza, pasta, tortillas, hot and cold cereals, and more. Customers include commercial bakeries as well as bakery, foodservice and institutional distributors.
Acquisitions:
Founded in 1919, ConAgra currently owns 26 mills in 15 states and also jointly owns another flour mill. In 1999, the company's annual flour volume rose to approximately 7.5 billion pounds. This was a substantial growth from 1998 figures due in part to several acquisitions. One example is ConAgra's recent acquisition of certain assets of Capitol Milling, including a new, state-of-the-art flour mill located in Southern California.
Modernization: In January, a major modernization and expansion project began at ConAgra's Decatur, Ala., flour mill.
The expansion will substantially increase ConAgra's flour milling capacity by 700,000 pounds of flour a day. The mill is adding this capacity to supply its growing customer base in the Southeast with bakery and specialty flours. The complex will include multiple milling units, a blending facility and high-speed packaging machinery that will allow the mill to deliver customization of finished products in various packaging options.
The Decatur project is the fourth in a series of ConAgra Flour Milling Co. projects to add state-of-the-art capacity. The three prior ConAgra Flour Milling projects included new plants in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Commerce City, Colo., and the acquisition of a new mill in Colton, Calif.
"We've got a lot in store for our customers and the industry in the coming months," said Nowakowski. "From our increasing technology to our growing market presence, ConAgra has many big ideas to come."
ConAgra Flour Milling Co. is part of ConAgra, Inc., an international food company based in Omaha, Neb. To help each individual customer "buy it better, make it better and sell it better", ConAgra Flour Milling Co. leverages the experience, resources and big ideas of all 250 ConAgra companies across the food chain.
